Denver International Airport broke ground Monday on a $2.1 billion expansion of Concourse B that will add 39 new gates and a new underground transit connector, making it the largest airport infrastructure investment in Colorado history.
Project Scope
The expansion will extend Concourse B by 450,000 square feet, adding capacity for 15 million additional passengers annually. The project includes a new automated people mover connecting to the main terminal, expanded dining and retail, and a separate international arrivals facility.
Funding
The project is funded through a combination of airport revenue bonds ($1.4 billion), FAA infrastructure grants ($400 million), and airline cost-sharing agreements ($300 million). United Airlines, DEN's largest carrier, signed a 20-year lease commitment as part of the financing structure.
Timeline
Construction is expected to take four years, with the first 20 gates opening in 2028 and the full expansion complete by 2030.
