The Federal Aviation Administration on Thursday granted type certification to the Boeing 737 MAX 10, ending a two-year delay that threatened the program's viability. The certification allows Boeing to begin deliveries to United Airlines, the largest customer for the variant with 277 aircraft on order.

Path to Certification

Boeing submitted the final certification package in January 2026 following years of additional testing required after the MAX family was grounded in 2019. The FAA conducted 3,800 hours of flight testing before approving the aircraft.

United Airlines Ready for Deliveries

United Airlines, which holds the largest order book for the MAX 10, said it expects to receive the first aircraft in Q3 2026. The MAX 10 seats up to 230 passengers in a high-density single-class configuration, making it highly efficient for short to medium-haul routes.

Impact on Boeing's Recovery

The certification is a significant milestone for Boeing's commercial aviation recovery. The MAX 10 is expected to generate over $100 billion in revenue over its production life.
